Yes, Vogue actually printed this crazy diet in the 1970's.
You may have seen this image floating around the internet and yes, it’s even more shocking than you think. And yes, Vogue Magazine actually recommended this diet for Women in the 1970s.
The Vogue ‘Wine and Eggs’ Diet may come as either a delight or shock to you. As you would expect by the title, the plan involves consuming only wine and eggs for 3 days, promising it’s readers a loss of approximately 5 lbs or 2.5 kg.
Breakfast starts with one hard boiled egg, which seems ok to me until I read the text that follows. A glass of white, no not even a breakfast mimosa (apparently that makes it ok), just a straight up glass of white wine. But don’t worry, only the dry kind, ‘Preferably Chablis’- at least it’s lower in sugar I guess! Apparently this pairs perfectly with a black coffee.
Next is lunch, no time for snacks...that’s excessive! Two more eggs, hard boiled is supposedly better than poached. Do you think scrambled is on the cards? I wouldn’t even suggest fried. Again, another black coffee and two more glasses of white wine (still dry). By the afternoon, you’ll probably be pretty sloshed, so no need to worry about any hunger pangs. Win win I say!
By dinner, the magazine was kind enough to consider that perhaps another round of eggs may be a bit much. Instead, a grilled steak ala pepper and lemon (i.e. no taste) will be your last meal of the day. You may also consume the remainder of your wine as ‘up to one bottle per day’ is allowed. Very considerate I think. You may finish your meal off Italiano style with you guessed it, another black coffee.
Bon appetit!
