Neil Perry to honour his mother with new restaurant ‘Margaret’

After what seemed like his exit from the food world, Neil Perry is set to open up a new restaurant in the heart of Double Bay for June 2021.

Margaret is an ode to Perry’s mother, with an intention of serving the food that he grew up eating. Although it was Perry’s father who taught him how to cook, his mother taught him “how to care and be kind” says the chef.

Margaret will open in the new Pallas House development located on Bay street in Double Bay, expecting to seat around 170 patrons altogether. The interiors will be simple and slick as designed by Caon Studio and ACME&Co.

Most importantly, the menu will be modern Australian and hold strong roots to Perry’s childhood. There will be wood fire, rotisserie and flames all neatly tied together. Expect steaks as incredible as Rockpool but with the addition of fresh seafood, porchetta over the fire and a heap of vegetables.

The head chef is still yet to be announced, however he plans to be cooking in the kitchen himself a lot regardless. Margaret will be “the place where people can drop in anytime of the day for a coffee, glass of wine, a few oysters or a roast chicken and salad”. Sounds like it’s ticking all the boxes for the Double Bay crowd? We think so.
