Crush That Pasta Audrey!

Audrey Hepburn is an icon. Smart. Philanthropist. Oscar winning actress. Stylish. Pleasant on the eyes. And she was a pasta junkie.

Always looking thin, people often thought she had an eating disorder but these rumours were never true. Actually, Hepburn was even into dieting. "She loved Italian food and pasta. She ate a lot of grains, not a lot of meat, and a little bit of everything," her son Luca Dotti has said.

"She loved Italian food and pasta. She ate a lot of grains, not a lot of meat, and a little bit of everything”.

Andrea Dotti, his father, was a shrink so an eating disorder would have been snuffed out quick. Hepburn's longtime partner Robert Wolders said that Audrey did not diet and on their long walks together, she would often out-walk him. "She had a healthy metabolism, but she was not excessive," said Wolders, who began a relationship with Audrey in 1980 that lasted until her death in 1993.

Hepburn's diet was simple. Breakfast was mostly brown bread with jam, lunch a lean meat or a pasta with fresh vegetables from the garden and for dinner, something light like as a chicken soup with veggies. Being a Locavore, she knew the markets and only ate what was in season.

However, yes, she loved her carbs. A pasta junkie who liked her fix mostly in the form of a pasta al pomodoro or as a pesto pasta, she even went as far as hitting up pasta with plain old ketchup, which she also made for her son, “when no one was around.”

"Mum had a serious pasta addiction. She couldn't do without pasta”.

Dotti says that "Mum had a serious pasta addiction. She couldn't do without pasta” and still, once a month, Audrey would detox on plain yogurt and a grated apple. The detox is a necessary thing at times but the retox is always much more fun. Makes you wonder if she was going up or coming down when she married a guy called Dotti. Just asking for a friend…
